Do's and Dont's to Better your Spooncarving
By my hands and those of my ancestors
My Mission: A Blend of Tradition and Sustainability
Hello, I'm Andreea, the founder and artisan behind Ponder And Spoon. My journey in crafting these unique kitchen utensils is fuelled by two passions: a deep reverence for traditional woodworking and a commitment to environmental sustainability. My mission is to bring these elements together, offering you a piece of handcrafted art that not only enhances your kitchen but also carries the timeless beauty of traditional craft.

Embracing the Legacy of Woodworking
My workshop is a sanctuary where modern sustainability meets age-old techniques. My fascination with traditional woodworking is inspired by the skilled artisans in my family and community. These craftspeople, with their deep respect for the material and meticulous attention to detail, instilled in me a profound appreciation for the art of wood carving.

Crafting Each Spoon with Traditional Techniques
Every spoon is more than a utensil; it's a tribute to the legacy of traditional craft. I use time-honored techniques, honed through a lot of practice, to ensure that each spoon isn’t just functional, but a piece of history and art. My approach involves careful selection of sustainable wood, thoughtful design, and a meticulous, hands-on process that respects the craftsmanship of the past.

My Promise to You: Uniqueness in Every Spoon
I understand that your kitchen is a reflection of you, unique and special. That's why no two spoons are the same. Each one has its own story, its own set of grain patterns, its own character - a unique personality that's meant to complement your culinary and dining experiences.

Joining Hands with Tradition and Nature
By choosing a Ponder And Spoon spoon, you're not just selecting a kitchen utensil. You're embracing a piece of tradition, a commitment to sustainability, and a work of art. It's about appreciating the skill of traditional woodworking while supporting environmentally conscious practices.

My Pledge: Honouring Tradition, Protecting Nature
As I continue on this path, I pledge to uphold the values of traditional craft while innovating in ways that reduce our environmental footprint. My goal is to create kitchenware that doesn’t just serve a purpose but also tells a story of tradition, nature, and sustainable living.

I also hope that you'll find a sense of wonder and joy in using your spoon just as much as I found in making it. And I hope its magic will bring you closer to your heart and nature.
About the process
Inspiration
Every piece of wood has its own story. I never know how it will look like on the inside from just looking at it. I do tend to like the ones that have a natural bent though, but I have been wonderfully surprised by pieces that looked perfectly straight, only to have the most fun twist on the inside.
Listening
On the chopping block is where all the spoons are born. Working with the axe feels like such a rough process and I often pause and look at the grain of the wood to see where it wants to flow, how does it want to express itself if it were to be a spoon.
Flexibility
Creating the spoon is a wonderful dance between being hard and firm, yet soft and gentle. Starting with an idea in mind, and staying flexible and going with what the wood wants. Every step of the way.
